Scrub Ridge Trail Aerial 360° Spherical Panorama.
Here are two aerial 360° spherical panoramic images above the Scrub Ridge Trail, located in the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. Located along the mosquito lagoon this one-mile loop trail through scrub habitat is adjacent to the Bio Lab Road which is a 6-mile scenic route through various Florida Habitat.
The Scrub Ridge Trail is one of the newer trails in the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and takes hikers through a habitat that is host to the Florida Scrub-Jay. The Scrub Jay is listed as a threatened state species by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in 1975 and listed as a threatened federal species by the US Fish and Wildlife Service back in 1987.
The trail winds south from the parking lot and takes hikers on a path through Pine trees, Palmetto Palms, Oak trees, and Sable Palms among other Florida vegetation. The scrub is a distinctive plant community found in various locations in Florida. Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge provides sanctuary for more endangered and threatened wildlife than any other Florida habitat.
Hikers can expect to see a variety of Florida wildlife such as:
- Gopher Tortoise (Threatened Species)
- Florida Scrub-Jay (Threatened Species)
- Bobcat
- Alligators
- Eastern Towhee
- Great Horned Owl
- Northern Mockingbird
- White-Tailed Deer
- Wild Boar
- Indigo Snake (Threatened Species)
Visitors should bring plenty of water, insect repellent, binoculars, and your camera. Like most of the trails in the refuge, there are no restrooms.
Here is a spherical 360 panoramic I captured at the trail in 2014 during the rainy season. I captured this image with a Canon 5d mark ii with an 8mm Sigma fisheye lens. I mounted the camera on a painters pole and triggered the shutter with a wireless remote.
Aerial 360° images captured July 30, 2016.
