Roaring Fork Falls Trail

In June of 2023, I decided to hike to Roaring Fork Falls to take some photos and relax. Below are three 360-degree panoramic images I captured at the waterfall. There are two at the base of the waterfall and one at the top of the falls.

About the location

Discover the Enchanting Roaring Fork Creek Falls in Pisgah National Forest

Embark on a journey to witness the captivating beauty of Roaring Fork Creek Falls, a majestic cascade with a mesmerizing drop of approximately 100 ft (around 50 ft high), set amidst the picturesque landscapes of Pisgah National Forest. Situated a mere two miles away from the renowned Blue Ridge Parkway via NC Highway 80, this natural wonder resides at the base of the mighty Mt. Mitchell, nestled alongside the prestigious Mount Mitchell Golf Club Resort.

Traversing the Mt. Mitchell Scenic Byway, you will find Roaring Fork Creek Falls conveniently situated about seven miles from the splendid Crabtree Falls. If you’re seeking to make the most of your trip, an easy 2.5-mile drive will lead you to the enchanting Setrock Creek Falls, offering you the opportunity to marvel at not just one but two waterfalls in a single memorable excursion.

Venturing along the half-mile hike leading to the falls, you’ll find yourself strolling along a mostly flat forest service road, making the journey swift and undemanding – perfect for enthusiasts of all ages. As you draw closer to the falls, the gentle sound of cascading water serenades you, and the verdant surroundings of rhododendron embrace you in a sense of tranquility.

For avid photographers and nature enthusiasts alike, Roaring Fork Creek Falls presents a captivating subject, especially after a week of abundant rainfall, when the waterfall’s flow is at its grandest. However, during drier spells, the water flow might diminish, revealing a more delicate, albeit equally charming, display.

Beyond its scenic allure, Roaring Fork Creek plays a vital role as it feeds into the nearby Toe River, contributing to the region’s ecosystem and creating a haven for diverse flora and fauna.

Whether you are a seasoned hiker seeking an idyllic escapade or a family in search of a rewarding outdoor experience, Roaring Fork Creek Falls promises an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Pisgah National Forest. So, seize the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature’s embrace and witness the captivating magic of this wondrous waterfall.
