The Not So Abandonded Space Shuttle Landing Facility
Back in 2010, NASA discontinued the Space Shuttle program leaving the Space Shuttle Landing Facility a fairly abandoned location. The facility is still in use today, just not for landing the space shuttle. NASA still uses this landing strip for bringing in aerospace parts on various planes, one being the modified Super Guppy. The Space Shuttle Landing Facility is also used for top speed runs by car manufacturers, and local car clubs trying to see who the fasted in the group is.
Below is an image I was able to capture back in 2015 out at the air traffic control tower overlooking the runway. I was also out here for the Space Shuttle Endeavour Flyout in 2012 and you can see those photos in my aerospace photo gallery.
