Crooked River Lighthouse
The Crooked River Lighthouse, located in Carrabelle, Florida stands at 103-feet and is the tallest lighthouse on Florida’s Forgotten Coast. The lighthouse, also known as the Carrabelle light, was erected in 1895 to replace the Dog Island Light on the nearby Dog Island that was damaged during an 1875 hurricane. The iron skeleton structure is topped with a circular parapet and has 128 steps to the top.

More about the lighthouse
The Crooked River Lighthouse was lit for the first time on October 28th, 1895. Used by fishermen, oysterman, timber ships, and other vessels, the lighthouse serves as the rear range light for the channel to the west of Dog Island. The lighthouse grounds originally had two homes, one for the keeper and the keeper’s assistant, and a few outbuildings. In 1933, the lighthouse was electrified, and later in 1952, it was automated and unmanned. Learn more about this amazing lighthouse on the official website.
