Hurricane Irma Hits Brevard County

Mid September 2017, Hurricane Irma hit Brevard County, Florida. Irma was a very large and powerful storm. When the hurricane hit the Florida Keys and Miami it was still category 4 storm. By the time it made its way up the west coast of Florida, it was downgraded. Luckily for residents in Brevard County, we did not see the full force of Irma. We were only hit by category 1 to category 2 winds. Most of the damages in the county were from storm surge or from possible tornado activity. 

The worst part of the storm was not the high winds, for me its as all the tornado warnings throughout the night. 

After the storm, I went for a short drive to see the damage and most was just trees downs, power lines down and typical damage to aluminum enclosures. There were a few gas stations that lost their awnings. There were several boats underwater, docks torn up from the high water hitting the bottom of the docks and of course flooding. 

As Hurricane Irma started to hit Brevard County, I started a live stream on one of my YouTube Channels you can see the footage below. One ran for about 9 hours and the second video ran abut 10 hours.

One cool thing about Irma knocking out almost all the power in the state, was the ability to look up at the night sky and see the Milky Way with the naked eye.
